The agriculture industry is a key part of Alberta's economy and a contributor to the province's social fabric. It is not surprising as the diversity of Alberta's landscape allows for a variety of products to be produced with over 31 per cent of the total farm area of Canada being located in Alberta.
There are growing opportunities in this sector, despite the challenges it faces in the wake of environmental change. The government has increased spending towards R&D in this sector, encouraging innovation and competitiveness. Innovative processes and technologies being developed will help meet the consumer demand for more variety, more convenience, and more environmentally friendly food choices.
Long Love This Land
(a video about agri-food production on the farm by ATB Financial, Oct 2012)
Long love this land: four simple words that somehow capture the enduring spirit and determination of those who-without fanfare or ceremony-rise every single day to the relentless task of growing, raising, and producing the rich bounty that the rest of the world calls "groceries".
It is not an easy life, nor a simple one. And yet those, like the growers, ranchers and agribusiness professionals featured in this tribute-and the thousands more Albertans just like you-wouldn't have it any other way.
